Rumor: Ubisoft Has Restarted Development of Project Maverick

Author : Lillian Mar 05,2025

A Far Cry extraction shooter, initially codenamed Project Maverick and set in Alaska, has undergone a complete overhaul, according to Insider Gaming. Originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, internal reviews led to a major restructuring. Despite positive internal testing, Ubisoft shifted resources to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), ultimately halting the multiplayer aspect due to the technical team's reassignment.

Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio specializing in development support, now leads the project. Most of the original development team has transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 plunges players into a high-stakes, time-sensitive scenario. A mysterious cult, conducting disturbing experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children, kidnaps the protagonist's family. Players face a 72-hour in-game deadline (24 real-time hours) to rescue their loved ones.

A prominent gameplay element is an in-game wristwatch timer, constantly emphasizing the urgency. This intensifies the experience, demanding strategic, rapid decision-making. Far Cry 7 promises a unique, high-pressure experience where every second counts.
