Hollow Knight fans are buzzing with speculation that Hollow Knight: Silksong might be announced for the Switch 2 during the upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2. Dive in to uncover the details behind this exciting speculation!

Hollow Knight Fans’ Hope for Silksong Reignited

By a Twitter Post and a Piece of Cake

The Hollow Knight community has been set abuzz once again, this time thanks to a tweet by William Pellen, one of the game's creators, right before and during the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025. On January 15, Pellen cryptically tweeted, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow," hinting at the anticipated Switch 2 announcement. This naturally sparked questions about Silksong’s release.

The speculation intensified when, on January 16, 2025, alongside the Switch 2 announcement, Pellen changed his Twitter (X) profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed the image was from a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024. Pellen's comment on the article, "mmmm tasty," fueled further speculation among fans, with some even pledging to bake the cake if real Silksong news emerged by April 2, 2025. Another fan playfully linked the cake's "silky texture" to the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

While it's impossible to confirm whether Pellen himself commented on the article, his profile change is undeniable, suggesting a tease, albeit possibly a playful one.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced on February 14, 2019, intended for release on platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As a sequel to Hollow Knight, it follows Hornet’s adventures in a new kingdom dominated by silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry shared a glimpse of Hollow Knight’s enchanting soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. Following this, the development team remained silent for over two years.

The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in active development, promising more details as the release date approached. By June of that year, another trailer was released during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, showcasing new gameplay and confirming its availability on Game Pass upon launch.

Originally slated for a 2023 release, Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin announced a delay in May 2023, stating, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

Even after over five years, the Hollow Knight fanbase remains vibrant, actively engaging in community forums and eagerly awaiting any scraps of information about Silksong. Since the delay announcement, updates have been scarce, with the team only confirming ongoing development.
