Sony's PlayStation PC games will no longer require PSN account linking, starting with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. This change addresses player concerns about the previous requirement for games like God of War Ragnarök, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. These titles will now be playable without a PSN account. The impact on other single-player PC ports remains unclear.
However, Sony is incentivizing PSN account linking with in-game bonuses. Connecting a PlayStation Network account will grant access to early unlocks, such as suits in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and resource bundles in titles like God of War Ragnarök. These incentives include:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Armor of the Black Bear set and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
- The Last of Us Part II Remastered: +50 points to activate bonus features and Ellie's Jordan's Jacket skin.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Access to the Nora Valiant outfit.
Sony plans to continue adding benefits for players who link their accounts, including trophy support and friend management. While the reception to PlayStation's PC presence has been mixed, this move to remove the PSN requirement for some titles addresses significant player feedback and past controversies, such as the short-lived PSN requirement for Helldivers 2 on Steam.
