Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates
Splatoon 4: Sequel Whispers Follow the End of an Era
Nintendo recently announced the conclusion of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the beloved shooter isn't disappearing entirely. Seasonal events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with monthly challenges and necessary weapon adjustments and balance patches.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."
This announcement follows the September 16th Grand Festival, Splatoon 3's final major Splatfest event. Nintendo released a commemorative video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio's performance. "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us," Nintendo shared, "it's been a blast!"Splatoon 3's two-year run has ended its active development phase, fueling speculation about a sequel, Splatoon 4. Some players believe Grand Festival locations hinted at a new city for the next game, though others disagree. One fan suggested a potential location was simply Splatsville, the hub from Splatoon 3.
While unconfirmed, rumors of Splatoon 4 development have circulated for months. Previous reports indicated Nintendo had begun work on a new Splatoon title for the Switch. With the Grand Festival marking the end of Splatoon 3's major events, many believe Splatoon 4's release is imminent.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading some to predict a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4 based on Splatoon 3's final event. However, official confirmation from Nintendo is still awaited.
