Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's first foray into the iconic franchise, is set to close its doors just over a year after its launch on iOS and Android devices. The game, which debuted in June 2024, quickly captured attention with its unique blend of game show aesthetics and innovative interpretations of Star Wars characters.
The closure of Star Wars: Hunters is scheduled for October 1st of this year. In preparation for this, a final content update is slated for release on April 15th. As part of the shutdown process, players can now request refunds for any in-game currency they have purchased. Additionally, the third season will be extended, featuring reruns of certain seasonal events.
Fans eager to experience the last addition to the game, the hunter Tuya, will be pleased to know that they will still be able to play with this character in multiplayer mode. Tuya will be introduced in the final content update and will be available to all players at no cost from the start.
The news of Star Wars: Hunters' impending closure came as a surprise to many, as there had been no clear signs of underperformance. Given Zynga's robust standing in the gaming industry, it's plausible that other factors, such as market saturation in the pseudo-hero shooter genre, contributed to this decision. The shifting demographics of Star Wars fans, who are increasingly older and may not be the target audience for a fast-paced mobile multiplayer game, could also play a role.
