Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking fans on an exciting journey set after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This new series will follow the iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they work tirelessly to establish the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy in disarray.
Penned by the talented Alex Segura, who previously captivated readers with his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, this latest volume promises to be a thrilling addition to the Star Wars saga. The series will be brought to life by the skilled hands of veteran Star Wars artist Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Noto, along with Leinil Yu, will also provide stunning covers for the first issue.
Set approximately two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series unfolds in the wake of the Battle of Jakku, the final major confrontation between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. As the New Republic strives to assert its authority, Luke and his companions must navigate a galaxy rife with new threats. Opportunistic pirates, thieves, and other villains are eager to exploit the power vacuum left by the Empire's fall.
“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Noto expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, as Star Wars #1 will hit the shelves, perfectly timed to coincide with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This new series is just one of several exciting projects Marvel has planned. In February, the publisher will launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, a comic that delves into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
