NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind *Mortal Kombat 1*, has unveiled the first gameplay footage for the upcoming DLC guest character, the T-1000. Alongside this, they've confirmed that Madam Bo will join the roster as a DLC Kameo fighter. The T-1000 gameplay trailer evokes nostalgia for *Terminator 2*, showcasing the character's iconic blade and hook arms, with attack styles reminiscent of Baraka and Kabal from the *Mortal Kombat* series. In a standout moment, the T-1000 transforms into a liquid metal blob and executes an uppercut similar to those seen in *Killer Instinct* with Glacius.
Voiced by Robert Patrick, who portrayed the T-1000 in the 1991 film, the character's integration into *Mortal Kombat 1* is highlighted in a clash with Johnny Cage. The teaser culminates with a Fatality that pays homage to the thrilling chase scene from *Terminator 2*, where the T-1000 pursues Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator and Edward Furlong's John Connor. In the game, the T-1000 emerges from a truck's driver seat to unleash a barrage of gunfire on Johnny Cage.
Surprisingly, NetherRealm also announced that Madam Bo, a beloved character from the *Mortal Kombat 1* storyline known for her bravery as an elderly restaurant owner, will be available as a Kameo fighter. Her gameplay is briefly shown, assisting the T-1000 in combat against Johnny Cage.
The T-1000 will be accessible in *Mortal Kombat 1* starting March 18 during the early access period for *Khaos Reigns* owners, with a general release for purchase on March 25. Madam Bo will also be available on March 18, either as a free update for *Khaos Reigns* owners or as a separate purchase.
As the final addition to the *Khaos Reigns* expansion, the T-1000 follows other DLC fighters such as Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. Speculation continues among fans about the possibility of a *Kombat Pack 3* and the future of *Mortal Kombat 1*, especially given its sales performance.
Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company, remains confident in the *Mortal Kombat* franchise. In November, CEO David Zaslav announced plans to focus on four key titles, with *Mortal Kombat* being one of them. This commitment was echoed by Ed Boon, the chief of *Mortal Kombat* development, who in September stated that NetherRealm had already chosen its next game three years ago but assured continued support for *Mortal Kombat 1* for the foreseeable future.
While many fans anticipate a new installment in the *Injustice* series, neither NetherRealm nor Warner Bros. has confirmed this yet. The *Injustice* series, which began with *Injustice: Gods Among Us* in 2013 and continued with *Injustice 2* in 2017, has been on hold as NetherRealm released *Mortal Kombat 11* in 2019 and the soft reboot *Mortal Kombat 1* in 2023. In a June 2023 interview with IGN, Ed Boon discussed the factors influencing the decision to release another *Mortal Kombat* game instead of an *Injustice* title, citing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a new version of the Unreal game engine. Despite this, Boon reassured fans that the door remains open for future *Injustice* games.
