Ubisoft Discreetly Releases A New NFT Game

Ubisoft has discreetly released Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E, as highlighted by Eurogamer on December 20. This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter is unique in that it requires players to use cryptocurrency to participate.

According to Eden Online’s website, this game "expands the universe of Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix," which was initially introduced as a series on Netflix. Both the game and the show incorporate popular Ubisoft IPs, such as Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed.

In addition to its traditional online competitive multiplayer mode, the game is limited to just 10,000 players. To join, each player must obtain a Citizen ID Card, which tracks everything "from your seasonal ranking placements to your unique achievements and accolades earned." These cards will also evolve based on players’ in-game performance.

To acquire a card, players need a crypto wallet and must purchase an NFT Niji Warrior ID card from Ubisoft’s special claim page for $25.63. ID owners can also choose to renounce their citizenship and sell their IDs to others, potentially increasing in value based on their in-game achievements.

According to Ubisoft's page on Magic Eden, an online marketplace for NFTs and other digital collectibles, the game’s full launch is scheduled for Q1 2025. However, early ID holders will enjoy early access to the game.

A Netflix Series Inspired By Far Cry 3’s DLC

Ubisoft Discreetly Releases A New NFT Game

The Netflix series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is an animated spinoff of Far Cry 3’s standalone expansion, Blood Dragon. Set in an alternate 1992 reality, the series portrays the United States as Eden, a technocracy ruled by a single megacorporation.

The show follows the journey of Dolph Laserhawk, a supersoldier engineered by Eden Tech Military. After defecting, he teams up with his boyfriend Alex Taylor for heists, only to be betrayed and recaptured by Eden. Forced to join The Ghosts, Laserhawk is tasked with thwarting Taylor’s schemes.

While Ubisoft has not disclosed specifics about the game’s storyline, it is set within the same universe, where players assume the role of citizens under Eden’s regime. Players can impact the game's narrative by boosting their citizen scores through mission completion, leaderboard updates, and community engagement.
