An exciting new tech demo powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has been unveiled, providing players with an immersive journey through a futuristic cyberpunk cityscape. Crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, this project takes cues from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the atmospheric world of the Blade Runner franchise, and the vivid aesthetics of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was demonstrated on top-tier hardware, including an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 6000MHz.
This technical showcase is remarkable for its exclusive use of dynamic lighting, demonstrating the prowess of Unreal Engine's Nanite technology with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, enhanced by Screen Space Reflections. Impressively, this demo does not rely on advanced features like Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting, underscoring the potential of UE5 even when not utilizing its most advanced tools.
While the rain effect might appear slightly artificial, the rendering of wet surfaces is executed with stunning detail, significantly enhancing the depth and realism of the urban environment. However, the experience is marred by frequent invisible walls, which can break the immersion for players. Despite the consistently breathtaking visuals delivered by Unreal Engine 5 tech demos, it's worth noting that games built on this engine often face performance challenges when applied to real-world gaming scenarios.
