NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? The game has undergone a name change, now officially titled Ananta.
First revealed at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence. More details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:
The Meaning Behind the Name Change
While developers haven't commented on the reason for the name change, Ananta, meaning "infinite" in Sanskrit, aligns with the original title, Mugen, which also signifies infinity. The Chinese title further supports this interpretation.
The gaming community has expressed mixed reactions to the rebranding, although many are simply relieved to see the project progressing.
Comparisons to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness, are inevitable. Ananta's stylish trailer lacks gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a potential advantage in the eyes of some players. However, Ananta's visuals are arguably more compelling.
A Curious Turn of Events
Surprisingly, the development team has deleted all their previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, albeit with a new name. This decision to start fresh with new accounts has left many gamers perplexed.
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator battling paranormal threats. The cast includes characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
