The Armadillo, a passive mob introduced in Minecraft's 1.20.5 "Armored Paws" update, inhabits various warm biomes. Its tough scutes are crucial for crafting Wolf Armor. Here's how to acquire them:
Acquiring Armadillo Scutes:
Armadillos are found in groups of two or three within these warm biomes: Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, Windswept Savanna, and Wooded Badlands. Their defensive mechanism is to curl into a ball when approached rapidly; therefore, a slow and cautious approach is recommended.
There are two primary methods for obtaining scutes:
-
Patient Observation: Similar to collecting chicken eggs, an Armadillo naturally sheds a single scute every 5-10 minutes. This passive method requires no tools but can be time-consuming, especially for crafting multiple sets of Wolf Armor.
-
Using a Brush: This more efficient method utilizes a crafted Brush. The Brush, typically used for examining sand or gravel, gently removes one scute per use.
Brush Mechanics and Crafting:
In the Java Edition, a fully durable, unenchanted Brush can be used four times on an Armadillo; in Bedrock Edition, it's five times. Damaged Brushes can be repaired using an Anvil, preserving enchantments if present. Possible enchantments include Unbreaking, Mending, and Curse of Vanishing.
To craft a Brush, combine a Feather, Copper Ingot, and Stick (in that order, vertically centered) in a Crafting Table.
Once near an Armadillo (remember to approach slowly!), use the Brush to collect scutes. The number of scutes obtained depends on the number of Brushes crafted. Six scutes are needed for one suit of Wolf Armor.

After collecting the necessary scutes, craft the Wolf Armor at a Crafting Table. These methods currently represent the only ways to obtain and utilize Armadillo Scutes in Minecraft.
