MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

Warner Bros. Games has announced the upcoming closure of MultiVersus, its popular platform fighter, following the conclusion of its fifth season. The game's official channels revealed on January 31st, 2025, that the servers will power down on May 30th, 2025.

Season 5: The Final Chapter

Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be MultiVersus' last content update. This final season will introduce two highly anticipated characters: Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes). Player First Games confirmed that all Season 5 content will be unlockable through gameplay. Following the season's end, MultiVersus will be removed from all digital storefronts (PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store). No official reason for the shutdown has been given.

Offline Play: A Lasting Legacy

While online functionality will cease, MultiVersus will offer a local gameplay mode. Players can enjoy solo matches against AI or team up with up to three friends. To access this offline mode, players must download the latest game version between February 4th, 9 AM PST and May 30th, 9 AM PDT. The game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

Real-money transactions for Gleamium, the in-game currency, have already been suspended as of January 31st, 2025. Remaining Gleamium can be used until Season 5's end.

A Brief History and Community Appreciation

Initially launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus quickly gained popularity as a free-to-play platform fighter. The game underwent a relaunch in May 2024, incorporating features like rollback netcode and a new PvE mode. Despite these improvements, persistent technical issues and player concerns regarding microtransactions reportedly contributed to a significant drop in player numbers.

Upon closure, MultiVersus will boast a roster of 35 playable characters. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until its official shutdown on May 30th, 2025, at 9 AM PDT.
