Confirmed: Robert Pattinson Will Not Be the DCU Batman

Author : Max Feb 28,2025

James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), definitively excluding Robert Pattinson.

During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson's Batman remains exclusive to Matt Reeves' "The Batman Epic Crime Saga." Gunn stated unequivocally, "It's certainly not the plan. No." Safran added, "And we love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold."

Earlier speculation regarding Pattinson's potential DCU-wide role stemmed from Reeves' own ambiguous comments earlier this year. Reeves indicated a focus on his planned "Epic Crime Saga," emphasizing his desire to fully develop that storyline. He acknowledged uncertainty about future collaborations, prioritizing The Batman Part 2. Safran expressed enthusiasm for Reeves' vision, noting the encouraging progress on the sequel's script.

The Brave and the Bold is currently in active development, with Gunn and Safran actively shaping the script. While Andy Muschietti's involvement as director remains uncertain, Safran indicated that the script will be presented to him once finalized. Gunn confirmed his significant contribution to the script. Further announcements regarding The Brave and the Bold are promised soon.

The delayed release of The Batman Part 2 to October 1, 2027, raises questions about The Brave and the Bold's release window. Safran only confirmed a Batman film for October 2027.

A brief Batman cameo in Creature Commandos Episode 6 showcased a familiar silhouette, but lacked detail, intentionally so, according to Gunn. Gunn clarified that this subtle appearance established Batman's pre-existing presence and renown within the DCU, eliminating the need for an origin story. He also hinted at a future team-up between this DCU Batman and Superman. Gunn expressed his deep affection for the character, emphasizing his excitement for future projects featuring Batman and Superman together.
