As Microsoft continues its push to integrate artificial intelligence across all platforms, the company is bringing its AI Copilot to Xbox to provide gaming assistance. The new feature will help players resume gameplay sessions, offer recommendations, and perform various in-game tasks.
Announced today, Xbox Insiders will soon test Copilot for Gaming through the Xbox mobile app. Microsoft's AI assistant (which replaced Cortana in 2023) currently operates in Windows and is now expanding to gaming. The initial version includes several practical functions: installing games remotely, reviewing play history, checking achievements, browsing game libraries, and receiving play recommendations. Players can interact with Copilot directly through the Xbox app during gameplay, receiving responses similar to Windows' current Copilot functionality.

The most significant launch feature positions Copilot as a gaming assistant. While PC users can already query Copilot about game strategies during play, Xbox players will soon access the same functionality. The AI will retrieve walkthroughs, boss fight tactics, and puzzle solutions from various online sources through Bing.
"We're collaborating with game studios to ensure Copilot delivers accurate information that aligns with developers' visions," a Microsoft representative explained. "The system will always reference its original sources."
Microsoft has outlined ambitious plans for Copilot's gaming applications. During a press briefing, company representatives described potential future implementations including real-time strategy suggestions in competitive games, inventory tracking, and post-match analysis tools. While these remain conceptual, Microsoft confirmed plans to work with both first-party and third-party studios for deeper game integration.

Regarding user privacy, Microsoft confirmed Xbox Insiders can opt out during the preview phase, though future mandatory implementation remains possible. "Participants will control their Copilot interactions, conversation history access, and automated actions during this testing phase," a spokesperson noted. "We're committed to transparency about data collection and usage as we develop this technology."
Microsoft will further detail developer-facing applications during an upcoming Game Developers Conference session, indicating Copilot's functionality will extend beyond player assistance features.
