Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with creator Yuji Horii assuring fans that information will be revealed gradually. During a recent livestream with KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed that the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.
This is the first update since May 2024, following the passing of key figures Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. Furthermore, lead producer Yu Miyake's departure to head Square Enix's mobile division had previously fueled speculation.
Concerns about the game's cancellation, amidst Square Enix restructuring and a lack of updates, have been addressed by Horii's statement, effectively confirming its ongoing development.
Initially announced during the franchise's 35th anniversary, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has recently reported that the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, achieving 2 million units sold.
