Dragon Quest III Remake: Tips for Acquiring Yellow Orb

Author : Aria Jan 27,2025

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, the starting point is often unclear. This guide will clarify the steps involved.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map. The town's name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

Merchantburg Location

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg can be found in the northeast corner of the world map. Sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost edge of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb acquisition order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early (immediately after getting the ship) is recommended. This allows time for the town's growth before obtaining the Yellow Orb, enabling simultaneous progress on other orb quests.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

Hiring a Merchant

  1. Hire a Merchant: Before going to Merchantburg, hire a new merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route.

  2. Establish Merchantburg: In Merchantburg's only building, speak to the old man. Offer your newly hired merchant to establish the town. The town will then be officially named.

  3. Merchantburg's Growth: After establishing the town, proceed with obtaining the Purple Orb (Orochi's Lair) and Blue Orb (Gaia's Navel). You'll receive notifications to revisit Merchantburg as it grows through five stages. Each visit reveals a slightly larger town, culminating in a large cabaret. On your fourth visit, you'll notice tension between the merchant and townsfolk.

  4. The Revolt: On the fifth and final visit (at night), the merchant will be absent from his home. He'll be imprisoned in the house south of his. Speak to him to learn the Yellow Orb's location.

  5. Finding the Yellow Orb: Return to the merchant's house. A quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground there to find the Yellow Orb.

Merchantburg Growth Stage

The Yellow Orb is usually the penultimate orb acquired. The Red Orb is found at the Pirates' Den, the Green Orb in Theddon, and the Silver Orb in the Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine.
