Guitar Hero Controller Unveiled for Wii in 2025

Hyperkin's Hyper Strummer: A New Guitar Hero Controller for the Wii

A new Guitar Hero controller is hitting the market – for the Wii! Hyperkin's Hyper Strummer launches January 8th, priced at $76.99 on Amazon. This unexpected release targets retro gaming enthusiasts and those eager to revisit the rhythm game classics.

The announcement might seem surprising, given the Wii's discontinuation in 2013 and the last mainline Guitar Hero game, Guitar Hero Live, releasing in 2015. The Wii's popularity peaked years ago, and the same holds true for the Guitar Hero franchise.

However, Hyperkin's Hyper Strummer offers backward compatibility, designed for use with various Wii Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles including Rock Band 2, 3, The Beatles, Green Day, and Lego Rock Band (but not the original Rock Band). This updated model, an improvement on a previous Hyperkin controller, utilizes a Wii Remote inserted into the back.

Why a New Wii Guitar Hero Controller in 2025?

The target audience is clear: retro gamers. Original Guitar Hero and Rock Band controllers often suffer wear and tear, leading many to abandon the games. The Hyper Strummer provides a fresh, reliable option for those seeking a nostalgic experience.

Furthermore, renewed interest in Guitar Hero has emerged recently. The inclusion of a Guitar Hero-style experience within Fortnite's in-game events, along with the rise of "perfect playthrough" challenges, has rekindled interest in the franchise. A new, responsive controller like the Hyper Strummer is an attractive option for players aiming for flawless performances. This makes the Hyper Strummer a compelling purchase for both nostalgic players and those pursuing high-score achievements.
