In a recent interview at Gamescom, Ed Boon, co-founder of Mortal Kombat, shed light on how Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate the gameplay of two iconic characters: Homelander and Omni-Man. Addressing fan concerns about potential similarities in combat styles, Boon emphasized that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is committed to ensuring these characters feel distinctly unique when players take control.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During his conversation with IGN, Boon highlighted the creative freedom the team has in developing these characters. He assured fans that the approach to Homelander and Omni-Man will avoid replicating the same Superman-esque abilities. Boon stated, “Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that.” This statement reassures fans that the team is actively working to make each character stand out.
Boon also revealed that the inspiration for the characters' movesets and Fatalities comes directly from their actions in their respective shows. He noted, “They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.’” This approach not only promises a fresh gameplay experience but also honors the unique traits of each character from their source material.
