Honor of Kings Unveils Major Esports Plans for 2025
Following its global launch, Honor of Kings is making significant strides in 2025. Key announcements include the inaugural Philippines Invitational (February 21st - March 1st) and, most notably, the global adoption of a ban & pick format for Season Three and all future tournaments.
This global ban & pick system introduces a strategic layer to the game. Once a hero is selected by a team in a match, that hero becomes unavailable to that team for the remainder of the tournament. This impacts player choices, forcing teams to consider hero mastery against strategic team composition.
The adoption of this format is significant. Many MOBA players specialize in a limited hero pool, and this system emphasizes team synergy and adaptability. The decision of which hero to use, considering both individual mastery and overall team strategy, adds a compelling new dimension to the competitive landscape.
A Strategic Shift
While not the first MOBA to utilize a ban & pick system (games like League of Legends and Rainbow Six Siege employ similar mechanics), Honor of Kings' implementation is unique. Previous systems often involved pre-match team agreements. This new approach places the decision directly in the hands of individual players, heightening the importance of team communication and coordination. This shift promises to increase the excitement and strategic depth of Honor of Kings esports, attracting a broader audience.
