Xbox's upcoming Developer Direct will unveil four games, one of which remains shrouded in mystery. Hints suggest this fourth game is a new installment in a renowned Japanese franchise with a rich history.
Speculation is rife, with several possibilities emerging. The event, the third annual Developer Direct, follows successful previous showcases including the surprise release of Hi-Fi Rush. This year's confirmed titles are Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Industry insider Jez Corden suggests the mystery game hails from a legendary Japanese IP, effectively ruling out several Xbox first-party studio titles. While a new Final Fantasy title from Square Enix is tempting, given their PlayStation partnerships and recent releases, it's deemed unlikely.
Other strong contenders include Capcom's Resident Evil (with Resident Evil 9 rumored to be in development), Sega's Persona (especially considering the rumored 2025 release of Persona 6 and Xbox's previous collaboration with Sega), and a potential Ninja Gaiden revival from Team Ninja, given the franchise's history with Xbox.
However, these are just speculations. The official reveal of the mystery game, alongside further details on the other three confirmed titles, will occur during Xbox's Developer Direct on Thursday, January 23rd.
