Embarking on a journey through feudal Japan in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* isn't just about stealth and combat; it's also about capturing the beauty of the natural world through the art of Sumi-E. If you're aiming to unlock the A Rare Occurrence trophy and achievement, mastering all legendary Sumi-E paintings is essential. This guide will help you navigate the wilds of Japan to find and paint these elusive masterpieces.

Legendary Sumi-E are exquisite ancient paintings of animals that you, either as Naoe or Yasuke, can create while exploring the wilds of Japan. When you're close to one of these subjects, a painting icon will appear on your compass and map. Approach stealthily by crouching and holding L2/LT to complete the painting. Unlike regular Sumi-E, legendary ones don't appear on the map, making them trickier to find. There are five legendary Sumi-E in the game, each available during specific seasons and times of day.

To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, head to the Omi region during summer in the daytime. Navigate to the Shimmering Fields, specifically the Shigaraki Hamlet. You'll recognize the correct spot when you see Tanuki statues around you. Follow the path uphill to a clearing where you'll find the legendary Tanuki. Approach cautiously and complete the painting.

Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime

The Grey Heron can be found in Wakasa at Lake Suigetsu during winter in the daytime. Head to the cluster of islands west of the lake. Approach on foot from a distance to avoid scaring the heron away. Locate the marked area on the map, crouch, and slowly approach to complete the Sumi-E.

Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime

Travel to the Yamashiro region and find the Little Leaf Glade sub-region. Locate the Sarumaru Shrine near the mountains. Wait for nightfall, then climb the stairs to the top where you'll find the three wise monkeys. Capture this serene scene with your Sumi-E.

Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime

The legendary Silver Fox Sumi-E is available in the Kii region, specifically the Nakahechi Route sub-region, during autumn at night. Head to the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, where you'll find fox statues. Look for the silver fox at the cliff's edge and capture its beauty with your painting.

Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime

Travel to the Yamato region and the Yoshino sub-region during spring at night. Start from the Mountain Blossom Temple to the west and head east along the path to reach the Sakura Meadows. Ascend the slopes to the clearing at the top, where you'll find the legendary Deer waiting to be immortalized in your Sumi-E collection.

Keep in mind that even when you're at the right location at the correct time, the animals might not always spawn. If this happens, try fast-traveling to a nearby location and returning to see if your luck changes. With persistence, you'll soon complete your collection of legendary Sumi-E.

That's everything you need to know about completing all legendary Sumi-E in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* to earn the A Rare Occurrence trophy and achievement. For more tips and guides on the game, be sure to visit The Escapist.
