The director of Lies of P, Choi Ji-Won, has expressed interest in exploring new genres following his experience with Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test. This article delves into the latest updates on the Lies of P Overture DLC, including its estimated playtime and what fans can anticipate.
Lies of P Overture DLC Updates
Open To Any Sort of Considerations
During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi Ji-Won shared his insights with Eurogamer about the evolving landscape of the Souls genre. His enthusiasm for FromSoftware's games is reflected in the design of Lies of P. After experiencing Elden Ring: Nightreign, Choi remarked, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."
This experience has led Choi to consider branching out into multiplayer games. He stated, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."
Despite his admiration for FromSoftware's titles, Choi emphasized that his inspirations are diverse. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."
Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players
Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. The expansion is packed with numerous bosses and content that the developers originally wanted to include in the main game. He elaborated, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."
Overture serves as a prequel, taking players back to Krat during its final days of haunting as they follow a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts from the initial development phase. Choi likened this release to a Director’s Cut, suggesting it completes the narrative arc of the game.
He noted, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." The positive feedback from the community post-launch further motivated the team to enhance the game through this expansion.
Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game
In an interview with IGN at the 2025 GDC, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not directly connect to the final cutscene of the base game. While the ending of the base game hinted at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed in a Director’s Letter video in November 2023 that a sequel is in the works, though details remain scarce.
Choi assured fans, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."
He encouraged players to explore the base game, noting that it contains hints about the content of the upcoming DLC. Choi also mentioned being impressed by some fan theories circulating online, indicating that some fans are on the right track.
Lies of P: Overture is slated for release in Summer 2025, with no specific date announced yet. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our article below!
