Monster Hunter Wilds boasts over 1 million concurrent Steam players despite mixed reviews. Let's delve into its PC performance and current issues.

Monster Hunter Wilds: A Launch Plagued by Problems

Mixed Reception on Steam

Despite mixed Steam reviews (57% positive out of 54,669 reviews), Monster Hunter (MH) Wilds has achieved a staggering 1,384,608 concurrent players, surpassing previous titles like MH World (334,684 peak) and MH Rise (231,360 peak). The negative feedback largely centers on poor PC optimization and performance issues.

Capcom Addresses PC Performance Concerns

Capcom acknowledged the negative reviews regarding PC performance. On February 28, 2025, the official Monster Hunter Status Twitter (X) account responded, directing users to the MH Wilds support website. Solutions suggested include updating graphics drivers, installing the latest Windows updates, performing a clean driver installation, and further troubleshooting steps detailed on the official Steam community page.

Game-Breaking Bug Halts Story Progression

A critical bug is currently preventing players from progressing in the main story. The necessary NPC for Main Mission: Chapter 5-2, "A World Turned Upside Down," is missing. Monster Hunter Status confirmed awareness of this issue on March 2, 2025, and stated they are actively working on a fix. Additional issues, such as inaccessible "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features and Smithy access problems, have also been reported and are being addressed with hotfixes across platforms.

Character Customization Locked Behind Microtransactions

Altering character and Palico appearances requires microtransactions. The "Monster Hunter Wilds - Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack" ($6.00) allows three character customization attempts, available across all digital storefronts. While basic options like hair, eyebrow, and facial color remain free, more extensive changes necessitate this purchase. A combined character and Palico edit voucher is available for $10. However, Capcom is providing a single free character edit voucher. These microtransactions, not present during the testing phase, were previously announced by Capcom.

Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates, check our related article (link to be inserted here).
