Marvel Rivals' Character Popularity and Mod Controversy: A Data Dive

Official game data reveals fascinating player preferences in Marvel Rivals. In "quick play," Jeff reigns supreme, outperforming Venom and Cloak & Dagger. The competitive landscape shifts dramatically, however. On PC, Luna Snow, Cloak & Dagger, and Mantis dominate, while console players favor Cloak & Dagger, Penny Parker, and Mantis.

A surprising twist emerges: Mantis, despite her popularity, suffers the highest defeat rate in competitive mode, leading on both PC and consoles, surpassing Hela, Loki, and Magic. Console play saw a remarkable 14 characters boasting win rates exceeding 50%.

Conversely, unpopular choices are evident. Storm, Black Widow, and Wolverine languish in "quick play," while Nemore occupies that unfortunate position in competitive modes.

The game's recent surge in popularity, with over 500 mods submitted in a single month, has unfortunately sparked controversy. Nexus Mods' removal of modifications replacing Captain America's head with Donald Trump and Joe Biden images ignited a firestorm of user reaction.

Nexus Mods' owner, TheDarkOne, addressed the situation in a private Reddit discussion, stating that both Trump and Biden-related mods were removed simultaneously to avoid accusations of bias. This proactive measure aimed to maintain neutrality.

Curiously, this significant event has garnered little to no attention from YouTube gaming channels.
