Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black: A Double Dose of Ninja Action

Team Ninja declared 2025 "The Year of the Ninja," a fitting announcement considering the surprise reveal of Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black at the Xbox Developer Direct 2025. Fumihiko Yasuda, Head of Team Ninja and Ninja Gaiden 4 Producer at Koei Tecmo Games, expressed his excitement, promising fans an evolved series experience.

Thirteen years after Ninja Gaiden 3, Ninja Gaiden 4, developed by Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, marks a highly anticipated return to the franchise's signature blend of brutally challenging yet deeply rewarding gameplay. The Xbox reveal is unsurprising, given the long-standing partnership between Microsoft and Team Ninja, with previous collaborations on the Dead or Alive franchise and Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox 360.

Ninja Gaiden 4 introduces Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan, on his journey to become a Master Ninja. PlatinumGames' Art Director, Tomoko Nishii, described Yakumo's design as aiming to create a character who could stand alongside Ryu Hayabusa, the epitome of ninja mastery.

Yuji Nakao, Ninja Gaiden 4's Producer and Director from PlatinumGames, explained the decision to introduce a new protagonist: "Since it’s been a while since the last game, we wanted a new hero to make the series more approachable for new players. Of course, Ryu Hayabusa plays a significant role in the story, serving as a major challenge and growth milestone for Yakumo." Rest assured, Ryu Hayabusa remains a pivotal figure, playable and a formidable presence within the game.
