Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks: "Not Official"
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images at CES 2025, courtesy of accessory maker Genki, Nintendo issued a rare public statement. A company representative confirmed that the circulating images are not official Nintendo materials, citing the company's absence from this year's CES. This statement, while seemingly obvious, marks an unusual level of engagement from Nintendo regarding product leaks.
Leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, coinciding with reports of the console entering mass production. Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at CES quickly spread across social media. Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, directly addressed these leaked images and videos, labeling them as unofficial.
The Accuracy of Genki's Replica
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with existing leaks and rumors. The key difference from the original Switch is the inclusion of an additional button, labeled "C," below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown, even to Genki CEO Eddie Tsai. Tsai did, however, corroborate other rumors, suggesting magnetic Joy-Con attachment and mouse-like controller functionality.
Switch 2 Release Timeline and Pricing Speculation
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. Retail availability is anticipated no earlier than the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399. The ongoing leaks, regardless of their official status, continue to fuel excitement for the upcoming console.
