Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team Joins Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team on NSO

Get ready for a dungeon-crawling adventure! Nintendo announced that the classic Game Boy Advance title, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, will be available on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service starting August 9th. This beloved roguelike spin-off joins the growing library of retro games accessible to Expansion Pack subscribers.

Launching alongside its Blue Rescue Team counterpart on the Game Boy Advance in 2006, Red Rescue Team puts players in the paws (or claws, or fins!) of a Pokémon after a mysterious transformation. Explore procedurally generated dungeons, complete missions, and unravel the enigma of your new form. A modern remake, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2020.

Mainline Pokémon Games Still Sought After

While the Expansion Pack consistently adds classic titles, the inclusion of primarily Pokémon spin-offs (like Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Puzzle League) has left some fans wanting more. Many are eager to see mainline entries like Pokémon Red and Blue added to the service. Speculation regarding this absence ranges from N64 Transfer Pak compatibility issues to potential complexities with Nintendo Switch Online's infrastructure and integration with the Pokémon Home app. The lack of complete ownership over the Pokémon Home app by Nintendo may present challenges in seamless integration.

Nintendo Switch Online Mega Multiplayer Festival

Beyond the PMD: Red Rescue Team addition, Nintendo is running a Mega Multiplayer Festival until September 8th. Resubscribing to a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership will reward you with two extra months of play! This month also offers bonus Gold Points on game purchases (August 5th-18th).

From August 19th to 25th, enjoy free trials of four unannounced multiplayer Switch games. A Mega Multiplayer game sale will follow from August 26th to September 8th, 2024.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, the future of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack remains to be seen. For the latest on the upcoming Switch 2, check out [link to Switch 2 article].
