HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 will feature previously cut content from the video game The Last of Us Part II, according to showrunner and Naughty Dog studio head Neil Druckmann. Druckmann revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the show will revive "pretty brutal" scenes, including elements from the "Lost Levels" partially restored in the PS5 remaster. These levels, including Jackson Party, The Hunt, and Seattle Sewers, offer a range of tones, from the relatively calmer party and boar hunt sequences to the intense horror of Ellie's encounter with monsters in the Seattle sewers.

The inclusion of this cut content promises intense viewing. Druckmann stated that it's "pretty brutal," but expressed excitement for audiences to experience it. He also hinted at the appearance of a previously game-only mentioned "pretty prominent" character, echoing the approach taken with Frank in Season 1.
Season 2 introduces a substantial cast of new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel, among others. However, Catherine O'Hara's role remains a mystery.
With the premiere of Season 2, Episode 1 slated for April, answers to these mysteries are imminent. However, some questions may linger longer. HBO plans to extend the adaptation of The Last of Us Part II beyond a single season, unlike Season 1's complete coverage of the first game. Showrunner Craig Mazin explained that Part II's extensive narrative necessitates this, and Season 2, despite its seven-episode run, concludes with a "natural breakpoint," leaving the possibility of a Season 3 open.
