Important Considerations

Minecraft split-screen is a console-exclusive feature. PC players, unfortunately, miss out on this local multiplayer fun. You'll need an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch.

Your setup needs to meet certain requirements. A 720p (HD) compatible TV or monitor is essential, as is a console that supports this resolution. HDMI connection automatically adjusts resolution; VGA users may need to manually configure this in their console settings.

Local Split-Screen Gameplay

Minecraft offers both local and online split-screen options. Local split-screen allows up to four players on a single console – friendly competition is encouraged, but no fighting over controllers!

  1. Connect your console: Use an HDMI cable for optimal performance.

  2. Launch Minecraft: Start a new game or load an existing save. Crucially, disable the multiplayer setting.

  3. Configure your game: Choose your difficulty, world type, and other settings. Existing world owners can skip this step.

  4. Start the game: Once loaded, you'll activate additional players. This is console-specific; on PS consoles, press the "Options" button twice; on Xbox, it's usually the "Start" button.

  5. Add players: Each player logs into their account and joins the game. The screen will automatically split into sections (2-4 players).

Online Multiplayer with Local Split-Screen

While you can't directly split-screen with remote players, you can combine local split-screen with online multiplayer.

  1. Follow steps 1-3 from the local split-screen instructions. This time, enable the multiplayer setting.
  2. Invite your online friends.
