EA and Maxis are marking the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a delightful surprise. Both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are now accessible on PC through two Legacy Collections and The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
In celebration of this milestone, EA has launched The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection today on PC. These titles are available individually or bundled together for $40 as part of The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
Each collection comes packed with all expansions and nearly all stuff packs, though it seems The Sims 2: Legacy Collection does not include the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008. However, both collections feature additional content: The Sims 1 includes the Throwback Fit Kit, while The Sims 2 gets the Grunge Revival Kit alongside its other add-ons.
This re-release of The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 by EA is notable because it’s the first time in over ten years that both games have been widely available. The Sims 1 was exclusively released on disc, making it nearly impossible to obtain unless you found an original copy and managed to run it on a modern system. Meanwhile, The Sims 2 was available until 2014 via an Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin platform, but that version is no longer accessible. Thanks to these new collections, all four main The Sims games can now be purchased and played digitally.Back in the day, we awarded The Sims 1 a 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 an 8.5/10 for their charm, simplicity, challenges, and lasting impact. Although the series has evolved significantly since then, the originals remain worth experiencing for their unique qualities.
The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection are currently available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app.
