Star Wars icon Mark Hamill experienced a memorable wardrobe mishap at this year's 2025 BAFTAs — revealing that fellow cinematic legend Demi Moore offered him an encouraging thumbs-up from the audience as his trousers began to slip.
During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hamill described the incident as "the ultimate actor's nightmare."
He recounted how his pants started sliding down while he was at the podium presenting Conclave with the Best Film award, noting that the fit hadn't seemed problematic earlier in the day.
"I tried those trousers on twice. First at my home in California, and [my stylist] adjusted them, asking, 'How do they feel?' I replied, 'Fine. A bit tight, but workable. You could let them out just a touch,'" he explained while promoting Mike Flanagan’s latest film, The Life of Chuck.
The situation took a turn for the worse later on. "Fast forward to London, with our car waiting outside and only twenty minutes before departure. I put the pants back on,” Hamill added. “He had let them out by four or five inches! Fortunately, our dresser Mary used a safety pin to secure the back, so I felt ready.”As any seasoned performer knows, anything that can go wrong often does. "They announced my name, and as I walked toward the podium, I heard the pin pop," he shared with Colbert. "With every step, they slid lower and lower. Not exaggerating, they reached my knees by the time I arrived at the mic!"
At that moment, Hamill scanned the crowd for his wife, but his gaze instead fell upon Moore. He mouthed to her: "Did you see my pants drop?" Her response? A supportive thumbs-up and a wide grin.
Channeling the discipline of Jedi Masters past, Hamill remained composed. "I hypnotized myself," he said on the late-night program. "I projected into the audience, 'You didn't see my trousers fall; it’s all an illusion.'" He stuck to his teleprompter script and avoided acknowledging the slip, preferring not to joke about it or draw extra attention.

In a funny twist, Hamill assured Colbert’s audience he wouldn’t repeat the BAFTA night mishap: “Trust me, my trousers are very secure tonight.”
Regarding speculation about Mark Hamill returning as Luke Skywalker in ghost form, think again. The iconic actor has confirmed he will not be reprising his role in the renowned sci-fi saga, stating it is time for Star Wars to evolve beyond legacy characters and focus on new futures.
