Sony Has Good News and Bad News on PlayStation 5 Themes

Author : Mia Feb 17,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes are leaving the PlayStation Store on January 31st, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return in the coming months, offering a glimmer of hope for nostalgic gamers.

In a recent tweet, Sony expressed gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive response to the themes. They've acknowledged the high demand and are currently working to bring these beloved designs back to the PS5.

Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow. Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead.

While the return of the classic themes is welcome news, Sony has unfortunately announced no plans to release additional themes in the future.

While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.

This news has met with some fan disappointment, as themes were a staple feature on previous PlayStation consoles. The current PS5 generation, however, will likely not see any new theme additions based on this statement.

The temporary themes allowed PS5 users to customize their console's interface with visuals and sounds reminiscent of the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4, celebrating PlayStation's 30th anniversary (December 3rd, 2024). Each theme featured iconic design elements and sound effects from its respective console generation.
