The surprise announcement of Space Marine 3 sent ripples through the Warhammer 40,000 community—not just from excitement, but also concern about the future of Space Marine 2. Many fans worried that developer Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment might shift focus away from the recently released title just six months after launch.
In a direct response to player feedback, both studios have now issued an official statement confirming that Space Marine 2 remains a top priority. No teams are being reassigned, and ongoing support is firmly intact.
“Mid-March, we announced that Space Marine 3 had begun development—and we’re thrilled by your enthusiasm. That said, we hear the concerns from those worried about Space Marine 2,” the joint message reads. “Let us be clear: Space Marine 3 does not mark the end of Space Marine 2. Far from it. Development continues as planned, with no team shifts or abandonment.”
The roadmap for Year One remains unchanged, with Patch 7 scheduled for mid-April. But more exciting updates are coming: a brand-new playable class, additional PvE operations, and fresh melee weapons are all in the pipeline. “Trust us—there are surprises even dataminers haven’t uncovered yet :)” the post teases.
While the new class has sparked widespread speculation—many believe it could be the Apothecary (the closest thing Space Marines have to a medic), though hopes are high for the warp-powered Librarian—the new melee weapon has also generated buzz. Fans have already expressed strong interest in seeing the iconic axe from the Secret Level Warhammer 40,000 animated episode added to the game—so much so that modders have already created their own versions.
This early greenlight for Space Marine 3 isn’t unexpected—Space Marine 2 performed exceptionally well at launch. As Saber Interactive’s Chief Creative Officer Tim Willits revealed to IGN shortly after release, ideas for a sequel were already in motion. “Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko has proposed some story concepts that could work as either DLC or a full sequel,” Willits said. “Yes—there are so many factions out there, and other chapters worth exploring…”
With continued support for Space Marine 2 and a bold new chapter on the horizon, the future of the franchise looks stronger than ever.
