Supercell's Squad Busters Wins Apple's 2024 iPad Game of the Year Award
Despite a rocky start, Supercell's Squad Busters has rebounded impressively, culminating in a prestigious win at the 2024 Apple App Store Awards. The game was named iPad Game of the Year, sharing the spotlight with other award winners like Balatro+ (Apple Arcade Game of the Year) and AFK Journey (iPhone Game of the Year).
Squad Busters' initial launch was underwhelming for Supercell, a surprising outcome given the company's history of carefully vetting releases. The question on many minds was how a company known for billion-dollar hits could release a seemingly subpar game.
However, the Game of the Year award suggests the issue wasn't the game's core content. The blend of battle royale and MOBA elements, in the opinion of this writer, is well-executed. Perhaps the market simply wasn't ready for a fusion of Supercell's established IPs.
While the debate continues, this award serves as a significant accomplishment for Supercell, validating their persistence and hard work. It's a well-deserved recognition of their efforts.
