Star Wars Hunters Shuts Down 9 Months Post-Launch, Steam Version Canceled

Author : Logan Jun 16,2025

In a surprising turn of events, Zynga has revealed that *Star Wars: Hunters*, the NaturalMotion-developed team-based battle arena game, will be shutting down completely just nine months after its initial launch. Originally released in June 2024 for Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms (iOS and Android), the game had already received mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. IGN’s Star Wars: Hunters review awarded it a 7/10, describing the experience as “Impressive for a bit, but probably not a place you’ll want to hang around for too long.” It seems this early critique was more foresight than review.

Zynga confirmed that the final content update will arrive on April 15, 2025, with servers remaining active until October 1, 2025. The decision came after what the company described as “careful consideration,” adding that it understands this news may come as a disappointment to players. In a statement, Zynga said: “Your passion and dedication to the game and its community have meant the world to us, and we are committed to providing visibility and updates throughout the transition process.”

Final Season Details

To give players more time to enjoy the game before shutdown, Zynga announced that Season 5 will be extended by three weeks starting March 25. During this time, past events and shop bundles will reappear, and the Ranked Season will also be prolonged to allow players a final shot at reaching the top rank—Kyber 1.

The last major content drop arrives on April 15, 2025, and will be available for free across all platforms. With this update comes the introduction of a new Support Hunter, Tuya, who will be unlocked for every player at no cost. Additional in-game content will accompany the update, and all existing game modes and battlefields will remain in rotation. However, in-game purchases will be disabled permanently starting April 15.

From April 15 onward, a final Ranked Mode leaderboard will be active, allowing players one last chance to climb the ranks before servers go dark on October 1, 2025. After this date, *Star Wars: Hunters* will no longer be playable online or accessible through any platform.

PC Plans Canceled

Notably absent from the shutdown announcement is any mention of the previously teased PC version of *Star Wars: Hunters*. Initially slated for an early access release on Steam in 2025, the PC port now appears to be officially canceled. The game’s Steam page now states that it is “no longer available on the Steam store.”

This marks a significant pivot for Zynga, which had touted the PC launch as a milestone moment—the first time a Zynga-published title would appear on the platform. Yaron Leyvan, executive vice president of games at Zynga, had expressed excitement about the move back in November, saying: “This is something our community of fans have been asking for and we are very excited to welcome even more players to Vespaara.”

What’s Next for Star Wars Gaming?

While *Star Wars: Hunters* may be coming to an end, the broader landscape of Star Wars gaming remains active. Several titles are currently in development, including Respawn Entertainment’s upcoming third entry in the *Star Wars Jedi* series and Bit Reactor’s new turn-based tactics game, both expected to be showcased at Star Wars Celebration 2025.
