Stellar Blade Dev Shift Up Posts Record Year, Sales of PC Version Still Expected to Outsell PS5

Author : Christopher Feb 20,2025

Shift Up, the developer behind Stellar Blade, reported record-breaking financial success in 2024. Stellar Blade generated $43 million in royalties, and the upcoming PC release is projected to surpass PlayStation 5 sales.

Game World Observer reported Shift Up's 2024 financial report, showing a 30.4% year-over-year revenue increase, reaching $151.4 million. A significant portion, $43.2 million, stemmed directly from Stellar Blade royalties.

The company anticipates continued growth, expecting PC sales to exceed those of the PS5 version, particularly within the Asian gaming market. Shift Up also plans to unveil its new title, Project Witches, in the first half of 2025. However, this new game is not the highly anticipated Stellar Blade sequel, though a sequel remains under consideration.

Project Witches was announced in 2024, shortly after Stellar Blade's PS5 launch, preempting significant demand for a direct follow-up.

Stellar Blade, a fast-paced action RPG, casts players as Eve, fighting unknown invaders to reclaim Earth. While receiving a 7/10 rating from IGN and achieving over one million sales, the review cited underdeveloped characters, a weak narrative, and frustrating RPG mechanics as hindering its potential to reach the genre's top tier. The review stated: "Stellar Blade excels in key action game aspects, but suffers from dull characters, a lackluster story, and several frustrating RPG mechanics that prevent it from reaching the genre's peak."
