2025: A Marvel Universe Under Doom's Reign
The Marvel Universe in 2025 is defined by one word: "Doom." February marks the launch of "One World Under Doom," a massive crossover event. Doctor Doom, the newly crowned Sorcerer Supreme, declares himself Emperor of the World. This narrative unfolds in Ryan North and R.B. Silva's "One World Under Doom" miniseries and numerous tie-in titles. A key tie-in is "Thunderbolts: Doomstrike," penned by Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, with art by Tommaso Bianchi.
IGN presents an exclusive preview of "Thunderbolts: Doomstrike" #3 (April release). The synopsis hints at a thrilling confrontation: Bucky, Songbird, Sharon Carter, and the Midnight Angels target Doom's vibranium supply, only to face off against…the Thunderbolts!

Is Bucky Barnes Responsible for Emperor Doom?
"Thunderbolts: Doomstrike" builds upon Kelly and Lanzing's 2023 "Thunderbolts" relaunch. Bucky Barnes leads a team tasked with neutralizing major villains, employing any necessary means. Their successes against Hydra and the Kingpin inadvertently paved the path for Doom's ascension.
Lanzing explains, "Bucky neutralized key figures, leaving power vacuums that Doom exploited." Kelly adds that their "Worldstrike" storyline was always intended to culminate in a Doom-focused sequel, aligning perfectly with North's "One World Under Doom" event. "Doomstrike" becomes a referendum on Bucky's choices, a chance for redemption amidst overwhelming odds.
Bucky's guilt, a recurring theme since his Winter Soldier days, intensifies. Kelly notes, "This new burden adds to his existing guilt, making him vulnerable to Doom's manipulation." Lanzing details the diverse motivations of the other Thunderbolts: Songbird, driven by loyalty and a desire for heroism; Black Widow, prioritizing Bucky's safety; Sharon Carter, combating fascism; U.S. Agent, disillusioned by his nation's subjugation; and Ghost Rider '44, a fiery old friend. The remaining team members remain a surprise.
Regarding Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Kelly teases, "Her role is complex, and readers must discover it in issue #1."
Thunderbolts vs. Thunderbolts
"Doomstrike" features the return of the original 1997 Thunderbolts, most of whom now serve Doom. The clash between Bucky's team and Doom's is inevitable. Kelly highlights the return of classic characters and their struggle with redemption. Lanzing reveals that Doom, not Bucky, controls the "Thunderbolts" name in this new reality.
Songbird's loyalty is tested, caught between her past and present allegiances. Kelly describes her conflicted emotions upon seeing her former comrades serving Doom.
This series marks the culmination of Kelly and Lanzing's multi-year Bucky Barnes storyline, spanning "Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty" and "Captain America: Cold War." Lanzing labels it the "Revolution Saga," concluding with "Doomstrike."
Kelly and Lanzing express their hope that the comic will attract MCU viewers, given the similarities in team rosters and characters. They believe the story will resonate with fans of the MCU's Bucky, Natasha, and Doom.
