11 Bit Studios Compares This War of Mine to The Alters

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has unveiled a new trailer for their eagerly awaited sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its release date. In this latest update, the creators paused to reminisce about their critically acclaimed wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted the studio to international fame over a decade ago.

This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and desperate ambiance, whereas The Alters embraces a more vibrant and frequently humorous narrative, focusing on the trials of various alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite these stark contrasts in tone, the developers highlight a deep thematic link between the two games.

While the settings and atmospheres of This War of Mine and The Alters differ significantly, both titles are anchored in the theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players must navigate the brutal realities of a war-torn city, managing resources and facing daily challenges to ensure the survival of their group. Conversely, The Alters reimagines survival as a frantic race against time, where players must continually relocate their mobile base to escape an unrelenting sun that turns everything to dust.

Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into hostile territories in pursuit of scarce resources. The primary distinction between the games lies in their protagonists: in This War of Mine, players lead a group of ordinary civilians, while in The Alters, players command a unique ensemble made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, ensuring a wide audience can experience this innovative survival adventure.
