In Maps of Misterra, you take on the role of a cartographer, tasked with charting an uncharted island. You begin with an idea of what the final map should look like, and you'll start placing terrain tiles on a shared board to match this vision. However, the nature of exploration means you might be wrong, as other players can challenge your placements with their own tiles until someone locks a tile in place with an extra action. The game introduces strategic depth with terrain effects, like enhanced visibility from mountain peaks or extended travel across steppes, adding both strategy and thematic richness.

The innovative mechanic of discovering and confirming tiles creates a dynamic, interactive puzzle. Your objectives will compete with those of other players, shaping the island in a unique way each time. This mechanic also gives players a thrilling sense of discovery and exploration, as no two games will look the same.

For those who love to immerse themselves in a game's theme, Maps of Misterra allows you to vocally defend your map choices against the 'nonsense' other players might try to impose. It's also enjoyable as a solo game, where you play against an automated opponent, maintaining the feel of an active competition. While the game's interactive nature might not appeal to everyone, the current price makes it a worthwhile experiment for its uniqueness alone.
