Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 Will Not Feature Antony Starr's Voice

Fans Express Disappointment Over the Announcement

Responding to a fan's question on his Instagram, Antony Starr gave a simple "nope" when asked if he would voice Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1.

Excitement was high among fans when Mortal Kombat 1 revealed Homelander as part of its upcoming DLC roster. The character, portrayed by Starr, is the central antagonist of the satirical superhero series "The Boys." Many credit Starr's compelling performance as key to the show's success, which has even spawned a spin-off, "Gen V," featuring a cameo from his character.

On November 12, 2023, Starr shared behind-the-scenes footage from the spin-off on his Instagram. In the comments, a curious fan inquired about his potential involvement in Mortal Kombat 1, to which Starr casually replied, "nope."

The news has left many fans disappointed, with reactions reflecting their high regard for Starr's portrayal of the iconic villain.

Speculation About Antony Starr's Involvement

This decision marks a departure from Mortal Kombat's typical approach of securing original actors. For instance, the recently released DLC character Omni-Man is voiced by J.K. Simmons, who also portrayed him in the "Invincible" animated series. This precedent led many to assume Starr would reprise his role for Homelander.

Some fans have theorized that Starr might not be telling the truth, perhaps staying in character by misleading his audience. Others suggest he could be bound by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) or simply grew tired of the repeated questions and gave a definitive answer to stop them.

Supporters also point out that Starr is no stranger to video game voice work, having reprised Homelander for a Call of Duty collaboration in July. Given his previous experience, some remain hopeful that he might still be invited to join the Mortal Kombat 1 cast.

Only time will tell if Starr's denial is final. Fans are eagerly awaiting further news about Homelander's arrival in Mortal Kombat 1.
