Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Year of Free Content and Story Updates Revealed

Author : Nathan May 12,2025

Assassin's Creed Shadows has taken the gaming world by storm since its release over a month ago, and Ubisoft is set to keep the excitement alive with an ambitious year 1 post-launch update roadmap. Announced via Twitter (X) on May 1, the roadmap promises a wealth of new content, including free Story Drops and an upcoming DLC expansion.

Year 1 Post-Launch Roadmap

Assassin's Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) is not just resting on its laurels. Ubisoft is dedicated to enhancing the player experience with a series of updates throughout the year. The highlight of this roadmap is the introduction of Story Drops—free content additions that will enrich the game's narrative and gameplay. According to Ubisoft, "These new free quests will introduce new player abilities, new allies, new world activities, and provide deeper looks and backstories for some of your favorite characters, each new piece of content expanding on the main game."

In addition to the Story Drops, Ubisoft is gearing up for the release of their first expansion, The Claws of Awaji, later this year. This expansion will take players to the island of Awaji, a new region to explore post-epilogue of the base game. Players can expect new enemies, new abilities for both protagonists, and an exclusive new weapon for Naoe.

The Claws of Awaji DLC expansion is included free for those who pre-ordered AC Shadows, but it will also be available for purchase for other players. To dive deeper into what AC Shadows has planned with its DLCs and roadmap, be sure to check out our detailed article below!
