Last year saw many excellent game releases, but one indie title truly shone: the roguelike Balatro. Developed by a single person, Balatro defied expectations, earning critical praise and achieving phenomenal commercial success, surpassing 5 million copies sold!
Just over a month ago, developer LocalThunk celebrated reaching 3.5 million sales. This means an astounding 1.5 million additional copies were sold in approximately 40 days, likely boosted by the publicity surrounding The Game Awards, as hinted by the developer on Twitter.
Harvey Elliott, CEO of publisher Playstack, lauded this milestone as an incredible achievement, expressing immense pride in both LocalThunk and Playstack's team.
Almost a year after its release, Balatro's success continues. This card-based roguelike receives ongoing updates, including exciting collaborations, and recently reached a new peak concurrent player record on Steam.
