Borderlands 4 Gets Own PlayStation State of Play

PlayStation has officially announced that Borderlands 4 will have a dedicated State of Play today. The announcement was made via a Twitter (X) post on April 29, setting the stage for the event on April 30 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST / 11 PM CEST. During the live stream, developers from Gearbox Software will dive deep into the upcoming FPS sequel to the beloved Borderlands series. A PlayStation.blog post from April 29 promises an engaging 20-minute session filled with "developer-guided gameplay, including missions, killer weapons, exciting Action Skills, new and returning characters, and more."

Launch Date Moved to September 12

Following the excitement of the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford dropped a bombshell on April 29 via a Twitter (X) video. He revealed that Borderlands 4's launch date has been moved up to September 12. The video was quickly deleted, and Pitchford followed up with another post explaining that he had shared the news prematurely and would repost it soon.

In his video, Pitchford expressed enthusiasm about the game's development, stating that "everything’s going kinda the best scenario," which has allowed them to advance the launch date. Originally set for September 23, as announced in PlayStation's February State of Play, Borderlands 4's official Twitter (X) account confirmed the new earlier date of September 12.

The official post on Twitter (X) reads, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
