As if they could resist having Alicia Silverstone don the iconic yellow and plaid ensemble again! Reports indicate the celebrated actress will return to her starring role as Cher Horowitz in a Clueless sequel series coming to Peacock.
The streaming platform currently has the series in development, according to Variety, though specific plot details remain under wraps. What we do know: Silverstone is confirmed to return, the show will continue the story from the beloved 1995 film, and the creative team is in place. Notably, this marks a fresh approach compared to Peacock’s earlier 2020 plans for a Clueless spin-off.
The Creative Team Behind the Comeback
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage—best known as co-creators of the original Gossip Girl series and executive producers of its reboot—will write the series alongside Jordan Weiss. All three will executive produce, joined by Amy Heckerling (the original Clueless writer-director) and Robert Lawrence (the film’s producer). CBS Studios and Universal Television are also on board as producers.
This isn’t the first attempt at bringing Clueless to the small screen. After the film’s box office success, a TV adaptation aired on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, starring Rachel Blanchard—not Silverstone—as Cher.
Silverstone recently revisited her character in a 2023 Super Bowl ad for Rakuten, proving she’s more than ready to slip back into Cher’s designer wardrobe. And honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way.
