The Google Streamer 4K is now available at its first-ever discount. You can currently purchase it for just $79.99 on Amazon and other participating retailers. As one of the finest Android-based 4K streaming devices available, the Google Streamer delivers modern features like smart hub integration and Thread compatibility at a much more accessible price than alternatives such as Apple TV, Roku Ultra, and Nvidia Shield TV Pro.

Launched in September 2024, the Google Streamer 4K serves as the successor to the Chromecast 4K, advancing upon its predecessor in nearly every way. According to Google, the upgraded processor is up to 22% faster, and the device includes double the memory (2GB) and four times the storage (32GB). High-speed 802.11ac Wi-Fi and gigabit ethernet connectivity are both supported. The Streamer 4K now uses a USB Type-C port, making it easier to replace the power adapter if the original is lost. Plus, if you misplace the redesigned remote, there's a convenient remote-locator button on the main unit.

Similar to other premium models, the Google Streamer 4K supports 4K HDR streaming with formats such as Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HDR10+. Despite featuring an HDMI 2.1 port, the maximum output is 4K at 60fps. If you pair it with Dolby Atmos-compatible speakers like the Sonos Arc, you can also enjoy immersive spatial audio. Beyond streaming, the Streamer can operate as a smart home controller, functioning as both a Thread border router and Matter hub.

When compared to the Apple TV or Roku Ultra, the Google Streamer 4K offers similar features at a more budget-friendly price. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max costs less, but Android TV provides a cleaner, ad-free interface that’s easier to navigate. On the streaming front, the Nvidia Shield TV Pro remains the only clearly superior choice, though it sells for around $200. Combine all these capabilities with Matter and Thread support, and the Google Streamer 4K emerges as a compelling total package.
