Splitgate 2: The Highly Anticipated Sequel Arrives in 2025
1047 Games, the creators of the popular "Halo meets Portal" shooter, Splitgate, have announced a sequel! Get ready for the Sol Splitgate League and a whole new level of portal-powered mayhem.
A New Era of Portal Combat
Revealed on July 18th with a stunning cinematic trailer, Splitgate 2 promises a fresh take on the fast-paced arena shooter experience. CEO Ian Proulx stated their ambition to create "a game that can last a decade or more," necessitating a refined gameplay loop built with modern tools. Hilary Goldstein, Head of Marketing, added that the portal mechanics have been re-evaluated to provide both casual and expert players with satisfying gameplay.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and remaining free-to-play, Splitgate 2 will introduce a faction system, adding a new layer of strategic depth. While retaining core elements, the developers assure players that Splitgate 2 will offer a completely fresh experience. Launching in 2025 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
Building on the Success of the Original
The original Splitgate, known for its unique blend of fast-paced arena combat and Portal-inspired wormhole mechanics, exploded in popularity after its initial demo release. The game's immense success led to server upgrades to handle the massive player base. Following its official release on September 15, 2022, 1047 Games announced they would cease updates to focus on creating a truly revolutionary sequel.
Factions, Maps, and More
The Sol Splitgate League trailer showcased three distinct factions: Aeros (dashing mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force). While not a hero shooter like Overwatch or Valorant, these factions promise diverse playstyles.
Further gameplay details will be unveiled at Gamescom 2024 (August 21-25). However, the trailer confirms the presence of new maps, weapons, and the return of dual-wielding.
Lore and Community Engagement
Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. However, a mobile companion app will allow players to delve into the game's lore through comics, earn character cards, and even take a quiz to determine their ideal faction.
Prepare for the next evolution of portal combat! Splitgate 2 is coming in 2025.
