As part of Metro's 15th anniversary celebrations, 4A Games has announced that Metro 2033 Redux will be free on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT. This special promotion was shared on Metro’s official Twitter (X) account on April 14, giving new players a chance to dive into the game that started it all.
In addition to this exciting offer, 4A Games provided an update on March 16 via their official website, outlining their plans for Metro's anniversary. They promised a year filled with events, deals, and celebratory content across their social media channels to thank their dedicated fanbase.
4A Games, originally founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanding to Malta, draws inspiration from the works of Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, notably his science fiction novel Metro 2033 and its sequels. Amidst ongoing challenges in their home country, 4A Games remains committed to exploring themes related to the war in Ukraine. They stated, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible, and we want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title; it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."
The Next Metro
4A Games is currently developing two triple-A projects: the next installment in the Metro series and a brand-new IP. While details about the new IP remain under wraps, the studio has shared some insights into the development of the next Metro game.
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has significantly influenced the direction of the next Metro game. As mentioned in a previous studio update, "In 2022, a full-scale Russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."
Despite the challenges, 4A Games is steadfast in its commitment to delivering hard-hitting, reality-inspired stories. They assured fans that they will overcome these obstacles and deliver a high-quality game for what they believe to be Metro's most relevant chapter yet.
