Pokémon Legends: Z-A: Fans Frenzied Over Connections to Other Games

Author : Grace May 06,2025

This morning, we were treated to an exciting reveal of *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, Game Freak's latest installment set in the futuristic landscape of Lumiose City from *Pokémon X/Y*. The trailer showcased intriguing features like rooftop running, revamped battling mechanics, and the return of Mega Evolution. However, it left many fans with pressing questions about the game's timeline, potential time travel elements, and the reappearance of beloved characters in this new setting.

That's where the passionate *Pokémon* community steps in, eager to delve deeper and uncover the connections between *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* and the broader *Pokémon* universe.

To provide some context, while most *Pokémon* games are standalone, the first *Pokémon Legends* game introduced time travel and featured locations from *Pokémon Diamond and Pearl* set centuries in the past. It also included characters who were ancestors of those in other games, and even a character from *Pokémon Black and White* mysteriously placed in the past. With this precedent, fans are keen to understand the timeline of *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, the possibility of time travel, and the presence of familiar faces in Lumiose City.

Since the trailer's debut, the community has been meticulously analyzing it for links to other *Pokémon* games, uncovering numerous connections. The most striking is the appearance of AZ, a character who gained immortality 3000 years before the events of *Pokémon X and Y*. In *Z-A*, he is shown running a hotel in Lumiose City, seemingly content after being reunited with his Floette.

More subtle connections have also been spotted. One fan-favorite is the potential return of the Looker Bureau, hinting at the presence of the beloved detective Looker or his protégé Emma in *Z-A*'s Lumiose City. The office shown in the trailer bears a striking resemblance to the Looker Bureau from previous games.

Another intriguing theory suggests a connection between the two main protagonists of *Pokémon Legends: Z-A* and Ethan and Lyra from *Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver*. This has sparked speculation about a time travel scenario where Ethan and Lyra could be transported from Johto to the futuristic Lumiose City.

Alternatively, fans have theorized that the protagonists might be related to Professor Sycamore and Grace from *Pokémon X and Y*, adding another layer of mystery to their origins.

These theories could potentially coexist, given the unclear timeline of *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*. The presence of AZ suggests the game takes place after *Pokémon X and Y*, possibly hundreds of years later considering his immortality and the futuristic transformation of Lumiose City. This would mean that the protagonists and other characters could be distant descendants of those they resemble.

Another character sparking intrigue is a Hex Maniac from the key art, reminiscent of the mysterious Ghost Girl from *Pokémon X and Y*. This character's appearance in *Legends Z-A* has fans hopeful for a resolution to the long-standing mystery of the Ghost Girl, who could have haunted Lumiose City for centuries.
