Silent Hill f The First In Konami's Horror Series to Get an 18+ Rating In Japan

Author : Henry Jul 24,2025

Silent Hill f marks a significant milestone as the first entry in the Silent Hill series to receive an 18+ rating in Japan, earning the CERO:Z classification. This mature rating aligns with its PEGI 18 designation in Europe and Mature rating in the U.S., as shown at the start of the Japanese reveal trailer unveiled during last night’s Silent Hill Transmission livestream.

Currently still in development, the game’s certification could potentially shift, though early indicators suggest a bold new direction for the franchise. Historically, mainline entries like Automaton, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room were rated CERO:C (for ages 15+), while Western-developed installments typically received either CERO:C or CERO:D (ages 17+). Notably, even the upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team carries a CERO:C rating despite its 17+ classification in most Western regions—making Silent Hill f's Z rating a standout.

Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan and follows the story of Shimizu Hinako, a teenage girl grappling with intense societal, familial, and personal pressures. The narrative is penned by Ryukishi07, acclaimed writer of the When They Cry visual novel series, promising a deeply psychological and emotionally charged experience.

The recently released trailer offers a haunting glimpse into Hinako’s deteriorating reality, depicting her bloodied, wounded, and disheveled in her torn school uniform. While gameplay remains under wraps, the cinematic footage highlights the game’s eerie atmosphere, unsettling monster designs, and a reimagined Otherworld—this time blooming with crimson flowers instead of the rust and industrial decay familiar from past entries.

Despite the excitement, Konami did not announce a release date for Silent Hill f during the presentation, nor did they provide updates on No Code’s other upcoming title, Townfall.
