Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has endured tremendous pressure to deliver one of television's most gripping dystopian dramas—even at the cost of his dental health. Shockingly, the acclaimed director has revealed losing additional teeth during production of Season 3.
"I assumed everything would be fine, but I wound up needing two more extractions this time," Hwang confessed to Entertainment Weekly. "About eight teeth were removed during Season 1, and now two more—I'm still waiting to get replacements."
Initial reports suggested Hwang lost six teeth early in the series, but by November 2024 he clarified the toll was actually eight or nine teeth. While the final season proved slightly less stressful, it still extracted its own pound of flesh from the creator.
"Having already established the show's universe made Seasons 2 and 3 comparatively easier than Season 1," Hwang explained. "However, we filmed and scripted both seasons back-to-back as one massive production. The immense scale required nearly a year of shooting—extremely physically demanding work."

The visionary director recently shared intriguing possibilities for a potential Squid Game spinoff during Gotham Awards red carpet interviews. "Any spinoff would explore the three-year gap between Seasons 1 and 2," Hwang told Indiewire. "I want to reveal what happened during that crucial interim period."
The highly anticipated conclusion to the global phenomenon arrives when Squid Game Season 3 premieres June 27, 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
